‘’Recite, [O Muhammad] what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do’’ (Surat no.29, Ayat no.45)
The prayer times mean that Muslims perform salat. Muslims believe that Allah revealed the salah times to Muhammad.
The prayer is not only spoken words but also a Muslim unifying the mind, soul, and body in the service of Allah. So, a Muslim performs the prayers with movements that go along with the words of the prayer. Before beginning the prayer, Muslims make sure they are in the correct mindset. They should put aside all their daily cares and worries to focus solely on Allah.
The wisdom behind offering 5 daily prayer times
Prayer is religion’s soul. Without prayer, there can not be the cleansing of the soul. A man who does not pray is truly soulless. If prayer is removed from the world, it is the end of religion because it is through prayer that man knows God, and unselfish love for humanity and the inner feeling of piety.
Therefore, prayer is the first, the greatest, and the most sacred act and expression of religion. The prayer is performed and the words recited, it explains the spirit of religion, that is the expression of human contact with God.
In the morning, we find a new life and have the physical strength to earn our living. The one who gives us this livelihood and physical strength is Allah Almighty. We must perform the morning prayer to thank him for the blessings of health and to ask him to help us in our worldly affairs.
From dawn to dusk, we benefit from the blessings of life, health, and intellect that Allah has given us. The midday and afternoon prayers are performed to thank Allah for his blessings and to prevent our daily activities.
The evening prayer is performed to end our daily activities and efforts as the evening approaches and to end with spiritual worship to thank Allah for the blessings and profits we have received that day.
Then, one will enter the realm of sleep, before entering the realm of death, to seek refuge in the grace and mercy of Allah. it is a sign of a good end, that is why we perform the night prayer. In the life of everyone, there are five stages: birth, growth, stagnation, aging, and death.
Our Creator commands that we should perform five prayers daily in return for these stages, so that we may find harmony between our physical and spiritual selves and our work.
What are the prayer times?
A Muslim person must pray five times a day at specific times. Fajr Prayer is the first prayer of the day. It starts at dawn and goes on until the sun rises. Then the second prayer time starts at midday, when the sun starts to go down in the sky. This prayer is called Zuhr (Dhuhr). After the midday prayer, Muslims do the third prayer called Asr. It starts in the afternoon. Muslims offer Maghrib prayer time when the sun sets. The final prayer at the end of the day is called Isha prayer. It starts after the Maghrib prayer and lasts until midnight.
Daily Prayer Time Table
Compulsory Prayers | Prayers times |
Fajar Prayer | This prayer starts at dawn and lasts until the sun rises. |
Zuher | It begins when the sun starts to go down in the west. |
Aser | It starts in the afternoon and lasts until the sun starts to turn yellow. |
Maghrib | It starts at sunset, till the end when Isha begins. |
Isha | It starts after Maghrib prayer and stays until midnight. |
Friday Prayer Time (Jummah Namaz)
The Friday prayer (jummah prayer time) takes the place of the midday prayer on the other days of the week. The time for this prayer is different for each mosque, but it must be done after the midday prayer and before the afternoon prayer. If you can’t go to the group prayer, you should do the dhuhr prayer yourself instead. Men have to pray together in a group for this salat. Women can choose to go to the mosque for Friday prayer or pray at home for the regular afternoon prayer.
Other Prayers
- Eid prayers time
The Eid prayer always takes place before midday.
- Tarawih prayers time
The Tarawih prayer period lasts from after Isha till daybreak.
- Tahajjud Prayer time
Between the last portion of the night and Fajr, ideally between midnight and dawn.
Muslim Prayer Times in Different Countries
Many Muslims use websites and apps to find out when to pray and fast. You can choose how to calculate the Fajr and Ishaa prayer times in the program settings. You can use different apps according to your location.
By Using Apps
Many people who use these apps, even experts, might not know what the numbers mean and which option to choose. Many people might not even realize they can change how the calculations are done and just stick with the default setting.
Regional Perspectives on Choosing Islamic Organizations for Calculations
Some people might pick their own country, thinking these calculations were only for their area. Someone in France might pick UOIF and someone in America, UK, Germany, UAE, etc might pick ISNA. Another group of people might think that using different ways to calculate things is how most scholars in a certain country work, but that might not be true.
Perceptions of Islamic Scholarship: Trust in Egyptian vs. Pakistani Scholars in America
Some people in America might trust Egyptian scholars more for accurate research on Islam while others might trust scholars from Pakistan. They might choose to rely on organizations from these countries for information on Islam. Both ideas are completely wrong with no evidence to support them.

The Prayer is a pillar of Islam and therefore care must be taken to ensure it is performed properly. So it is very important at the correct time to start the acts of worship. For example, in the Fajar prayer, if someone prayed before the time, his prayer was not accepted. So, using these calculations creates a big problem for those who take prayer seriously. |
Wrapping Up
Muslims should read the Quran when they pray. Prayer helps us to feel better. The person who believes in Allah wants to feel close to Him and find peace and comfort in His love and mercy. They also feel glad to know that Allah is real. Understanding God comes from praying. May God help us to pray five times a day at the right times. Ameen
